A Regency rosewood work box, first quarter 19th century
Of sarcophagus form, an octagonal reserve to the cover painted with a figure and cattle in a Romantic natural setting with a ruin, boxwood strung border, further box and ebony stringing to the edge of the cover, with cavetto moulding, the front with bone escutcheon, the sides with gilt metal ring handles on foliate backplates, on four claw feet, the red paper-lined interior (bereft) with lift-out tray -- 8¾in. (22.2cm.) wide, 6¾in. (17.2cm.) deep, 4¾in. (12.1cm.) high
