A fellow of New College, Oxford from 1771-2, Hudderford eventually took orders to become the vicar of Loxley and incumbent of Wheeler's Chapel, Spital Square, London. He is remembered, moreover, for his pupilage under Sir Joshua Reynolds and his association with the artist is recorded by Rynolds in a double portrait with Mr. Bampfylde, currently in the National Gellery, London. The work shows Hudderford seated alongside Mr. Bampfylde, another satirical poet and musician, and holding a print of Reynold's portrait of Joseph Warton.
