With soft cane seat and caned railings trimmed with bamboo strips, the platform with 'ice plate' edge supported on a high waist above corner legs joined by a plain apron with beading continuing to the legs and hoof feet

Lot Essay

This luohan bed is of classic Ming design with the back railing slightly higher than the side railings. However, there do not appear to be any other published examples with caned railings, which allow for the circulation of cooling breezes in the summer.
