Ming Dynasty, Cast with an Inscription Bearing a Date Corresponding to 1516, Zhengde Period
The bodhisattva shown seated in padmasana with right hand in varadamudra, the left raised, both hands holding the end of the lotus stems which rise to the shoulders where a bird is perched above the left shoulder, wearing beaded jewelry, a shawl and skirt with foliate borders and a foliate crown centered by a figure of Amitabha Buddha, the inscription cast in relief on the two legs

Lot Essay
The inscripion may be translated, 'Ordered made by the commander of the Imperial Bodyguard, on the 21st day of the 11th month of the 11th year of the reign of the emperor Zhengde'.
