Lot Essay

The tightly curled hair and full face with straight nose and closed, elongated eyes are very similar to those of a complete standing figure of Buddha, illustrated in Hai-Wai Yi-Chen (Chinese Art in Overseas Collections, Buddhist Sculpture II), National Palace Museum, Taiwan, 1990, p. 78, no. 74.
