The bulbous body raised on a spreading foot ring and surmounted by an arched neck terminating in a duck head with simple but elegant indication of feathers on the sides and above the eyes, with a rimmed aperture in the top of the head, faint traces of pigment

Lot Essay

A very similar vessel in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is illustrated in A Handbook of the Collection, New York, 1993, p. 286 (upper left). It is possible the form is based on that of a gourd with a long, arched neck.
