An Unusual Ding-Type Lobed Ewer
Liao Dynasty
The bulbous body divided into six lobes applied with a ropetwist handle terminating in the depressed center of the ewer with a monster mask applique set above an aperture, three 'unraveled' strands of the handle terminating at the shoulder in further monster mask appliques behind the short spout, and with small foliate bosses applied on the edge of the shoulder and top and base of the handle, covered with a clear glaze of slightly greenish tone
