An Unusual Large Celadon Charger Carved with a Large Character
Ming Dynasty
With thickly potted, shallow rounded sides rising to a lipped rim, the interior carved with a large character, probably Lana, encircled by a barbed cartouche and double line border, covered overall with a glaze of even olive-green tone continuing over the thick foot ring to cover the base except for an unglazed ring burnt orange in the firing

Lot Essay

Compare a pair of blue and white dishes painted with the same character in the center, as well as eight characters inscribed around the well, and described as 'a mantra in Lantsa script', illustrated by Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, London, 1986 vol. II, p. 436, col. pl. 640 and p. 537, fig. 640.
