Yongzheng Six-Character Mark in Underglaze Blue within a Double Circle and Possibly of the Period
The globular body and garlic-shaped mouth decorated with lotus scroll, the copper-red blossoms borne on slender leafy stems in underglaze blue, and with a narrow band of lingzhi scroll encircling the neck below a wide rib, all within petal lappet, ruyi and key-pattern borders, the pair of curved handles with foliate decoration between molded ruyi-head terminals

Lot Essay

A very similar vase, also with Yongzheng reign mark, is illustrated in Porcelain from the Tianjin Municipal Museum, Hong Kong, 1993, col. pl. 146 and p. 205, where it is noted that this form is an innovation of the Yongzheng period. The only other published example of this rare form with decoration in both copper red and underglaze blue was sold at Sotheby's, Hong Kong, 1 - 2 November 1994, lot 178.
