A Flambé-Glazed Bottle Vase
Qianlong Incised Seal Mark and of the Period
The compressed ovoid body raised on a spreading foot, with double bow-string bands at the base of the shoulder, and single bands on the shoulder and base of the tall neck, covered on the exterior with a streaked glaze of bright red, purple, lavender and pale blue tones shading to dark mushroom on the edge of the flared mouth, the interior of the neck covered with a thin, streaked pale milky blue glaze suffused with crackle, the base and mark covered by a russet wash and a mottled celadon glaze

Lot Essay

A Qianlong-marked vase of somewhat different form, but molded with bowstring bands and covered with a similar flambé glaze, was included in the S. Marchant & Son, London, exhibition, Qing Mark and Period Monochrome and Two-Coloured Wares, 7 June - 26 June 1992, no. 38.
