Lot Essay

In noting the scarcity of works by Juan de Borgoña outside Spain, Post (op. cit.), expressed some reservation as to whether all of these panels can be fully given to Borgoña or attributed to his immediate followers. He singled out the present panels for their high quality, and concluded that 'the superior craft and the nature of the chiaroscuro compel me to cast my vote for the former alternative'; namely that they are fully autograph works.
