In 1953, with a view to allowing as many enthusiasts as possible to participate in motorcycle racing with reasonable hopes of success, the Motorcycling Federation revived Sport class racing for production-derived bikes on sale to the general public. For 125 class racing, MV Augusta prepared and marketed a model that was virtually identical to the bike they had fielded in the Italian and world championships. About the only difference was that the engine had a single camshaft as required by the original rules for this type of event. It was also equipped with an electrical lighting system (run off a flywheel magneto mounted on the left hand side) for events like the "Motogiro d'Italia" where the regulations demanded a full set of "street legal" accessories including lights starter and registration plates. This model was a considerable success and remained in production until 1956. But this was by no means the end of the road for this sporty little 125, which continued to be raced for sometime afterwards in the hands of various privateers.

This 1954 model is offered in racing trim from a private collection where it has been since 1995. Formerly the property of Bruno Taglioretti this machine is offered in extremely good condition having been restored in original MV Augusta livery.
