1958 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER WRAITH LONG WHEELBASE LIMOUSINE
COACHWORK BY H.J.MULLINER
Registration No. Not UK Registered
Chassis No. LHLW 23
Engine No. L 22 H
Ivory with tan and fawn interior
Engine: six cylinder in-line, overhead inlet, side exhaust valves, 4,887cc, dual choke Stromberg carburettor; Gearbox: manual four speed with synchromesh; Steering: power assisted; Suspension: independent front by wishbone and coil spring, half elliptic springs to beam rear axle, ride control; Brakes: servo-assisted front, mechanical rear. Left hand drive.
Through the fourteen years of Silver Wraith production H.J. Mulliner were commissioned to equip more and more chassis, and as the model developed accordingly they developed their designs. The left hand drive example on offer carries Mulliner's design number 7358, a handsome 'Enclosed Drive Limousine' which was an extended version of a previous design to fit the long wheelbase chassis. Distinguishable by its flowing full length wings, long chromium plated waistline spear and sloping division pillar, in standard form the lengthened chassis afforded the limousine more comfort, allowing seating for seven passengers with two division mounted occasional seats.
One of the last of the model to be built the Rolls-Royce was ordered new for Eli Lilly of Indianapolis and supplied through J.S.Inskip Inc. of America. Originally finished in Tudor grey, and monogrammed 'E.L.' to the rear doors, the build sheets specify R.100 headlamps, power steering, underbonnet horns, and 'Anti Hobo' doorlocks with weathershields. The interior was appointed in tan leather to the front, and fawn cloth to the rear, whilst extras included a cigarette case, notebook and mirror in the rear centre armrest and a speaker extension to the rear compartment.
Subsequent owner history is not recorded, however at some stage the Rolls-Royce has been repainted to the present livery, although it retains the original interior which is very presentable. In current ownership the car has seen limited use, and minor preparation prior to use is recommended. It is sold with copies of the original Rolls-Royce build sheets.
