Lot Essay

Based on a composition in the National Gallery of Art, Washington. An imitation by another hand of similar dimensions is recorded by Friedländer as being in the A. J. Barton collection, Oxford. (see M. J. Friedländer, Early Netherlandish Painting, VIb, 1971 p. 108, no. 214, pl. 216b).
