The present composition is characteristic of the production of artists working in the studio of Willem Claesz. Heda. It closely follows Heda's signed and dated work of 1638 whose location is currently unknown but which was recorded by Vroom as coming from the Hölscher collection (see N. R. A. Vroom, A Modest Message as intimated by the painters of the 'Monochrome Banketje', 1980, II, p. 73, no. 360a). Of Heda's imitators this work may be favorably compared to that of Isaac Wigans who was active in Antwerp from 1645.
