FIRST SEPARATE EDITION, one of 150 copies printed, INSCRIBED BY MAUGHAM across front cover: "W. Somerset Maugham [below his crossed out name] for Eddie Wassermann [followed by a long arrow] April 30, 1936." Laid in is a typed letter signed from "Gerold" to Edward Wassermann ("Eddie darling"), Villa Mauresque [Maugham's villa], Cap Ferrat, 30 April [1936], 1 page, oblong 8vo, typed in blue and red on Maugham's blue letterhead: "Eddie darling: -- Willie says he cannot bear the thought of your paying such an absurd price for his work and therefore begs you to accept it as a present. It is the real genuine and only first. We wish you were here. I love you..." Scott A6: "A Man of Honour was the author's first acted full-length play. The separate issue consisted of only 150 copies. Very few were sold [as souvenirs on opening night] and the remainder were sent to the author at his flat in Portland Place shortly before the war, but they disappeared when the house was bombed." A fine copy. With the Wassermann pictorial bookplate (after a design by Marie Laurencin?) on inside front cover.
