(13 1/16 x 8 7/8 in.), nineteenth-century olive diced russia, spine in 5 blind-tooled compartments, calf lettering-pieces, yellow green-sprinked edges, large restorations to covers and joints, upper joint broken, endpapers renewed, red morocco pull-off case, "To the Reader" verses on A1v torn and repaired, cut out and inlaid, and stained, lower margins heat-damaged and -browned, causing fraying and chipping to first 50 and last 70 leaves and occasionally elsewhere, the browning extending into text block of last 25 leaves, last 5 leaves severely damaged at bottom, large repair to fore-margin of A2, marginal repairs to last 3 leaves, an occasional small faint dampstain to upper margins, more pronounced at end, 2-inch tear to l1.

The unsigned "Epitaph on the admirable Dramaticke Poet, W. Shakespeare" on A5r is John Milton's first published work.
