Possibly Piedmont, Mid-18th Century
The rectangular serpentine-fronted top inlaid with a scrollecd cartouche centered by a bird above four serpentine drawers with strapwork and scroll inlay, the sides similarly decorated, with shaped apron, on bracket feet, with chalk inscription #1045 T 79n/349--
40¼in. (103cm.) high, 52in. (132cm.) wide, 21in. (53.25cm.) deep

Lot Essay

The scrolling fruitwood inlay which decorates this commode is characteristic of Piedmontese production. Two cabinets with related inlay are illustrated in E. Quaglino, Il Mobile Piedmontese, Milan, 2nd. ed., 1997, pp. 84-85. A comparable example sold Sotheby's Milan, 11-12 June 1997, lot 156.
