Lot Essay

Originally part of a larger set of furniture appliques, this highly worked repousse figure exemplifies the quality of German goldsmithing from the 17th Century. Compare, for example, with a set of six silver-gilt figures by the reknown Nuremburg silversmith Wenzel Jamnitzer sold Christie's London, 1 July 1997, lot 142.
