Circa 1795
Each outscrolled padded backrest and tapering seat covered with 18th Century tapestry, the seatback with youth within a draped surround, the seat with a landscape within a scrolled foliate surround, flanked by downswept armrests with flowerhead-inset handrests on baluster supports, the seatrail bowed, on balsuter legs each headed by a flowerhead in a dimaond-shaped reserve and ball feet (2)

Lot Essay

Two chairs virtually-identical to the present lot are known: one is illustrated in F. L. Hinckley, A Directory of Antique French Furniture, p. 183 and the other was sold Sotheby's New York, 26 March 1998, lot 113.
