19th century, entwined S mark forming a lozenge and enclosing the letter S in imitation of the Sevres interlaced L's mark
Of flaring cylindrical form, decorated with alternating spiral stripes of pink roses on a white ground and of cobalt blue edged with gilt laurel entwined around a gilt line, gilt line rims
21½in. (31.8cm.) diameter, 10¾in. (27.3cm.) high

Lot Essay

Decoration similar to that on the present large cooler is usually found on Sèvres tea and coffee wares of the mid 18th century. See Vincennes and Sèvres Porcelain from a New England Collection, Christie's, New York, 5 May 1999, lot 70 for a sugar-bowl and cover dated 1757-1758 and painted by Vincent Taillandier.
