Lot Essay

McKechnie, in her book, suggests that the ormolu frame may have been made by William Miers. The exhibition label on the reverse inscribed 'Landscape drawing on plaster by JOHN FIELD, III, Strand, London. EXHIBITED AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY, NO. 655, 1810' does not appear to be listed in the Royal Academy's records.
