Lot Essay

With the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte at the 'Battle of the Nations' at Leipzig by the allies and his subsequent abdication, the Treaty of Paris, dubbed the 'Peace of Paris', was signed on the 30th May 1814 and Louis XVIII restored to the throne of France. This treaty was the prelude to the period known as the 'Hundred Days', when the Emperor returned from exile only to be finally defeated on the field of Waterloo by the Duke of Wellington and Marshall Blcher on the 18th June 1815.
