An English walnut longcase clock
The case with breakarch hood and turned pilasters, formerly with glazed side panels, now covered, with moulded frame to the breakarch trunk door, on stepped cut-down plinth, the 12in. square gilt-brass and partially engraved dial with later arch, applied with a rosette mount flanked by dolphin spandrels, with later oak leaf and acorn spandrels to the silvered chapter ring signed William Pain London, with half hour and half quarter hour markers, the matted centre with ringed winding holes and subsidiary silvered rings for date and seconds, the latter marked at five second intervals, later and black painted hands, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement, with later seatboard and built up cheekboards; composite, case and dial circa 1720, movement later 18th century, case with some losses and replacements to veneers -- 84in. (213cm.) high
