A pair of Japanese gold lacquer globular vases
on shaped tripod bases, decorated in hiramakie and applied in ivory, mother-of-pearl and coral with butterfly shaped panels of ladies and boys beneath blossoming branches, the reverse with cartouche shaped panels of birds and insects in flight amongst fruiting and flowering branches, the neck rims with applied mother-of-pearl kiku head roundels, nashiji interiors -- 8¼in. (21cm) high, 19th Century, (minor chips, losses and old wear).
