The rectangular writing box designed on the cover in gold takamaki-e with three hens beside a meandering stream of gold and black togidashi which begins on the left long side, continues on the front short side and appears again on the side of the matching document box, the rocks and blossoming chrysanthemums to the right also gold lacquer with accents of okibirame, nashiji and togidashi and the grove of bamboo and a tall chrysanthemum in the background togidashi, the ground hirame and roiro; the interior of the box also roiro and hirame ornamented on the underside of the lid with the edge of a cloth curtain of togidashi, hiramaki-e and low-relief takamaki-e and a hanging decoration festooned with leafy branches of togidashi, a horizontal gold lacquer and okibirame cloud and two arrow shafts of gold and silver lacquer, the lower of the two removable trays which border the inkstone also lacquered in gold with a mouth organ and drum and drum sticks, and the lower area of the box to the right of the inkstone with a gold lacquer flute, the mizuire in the upper tray silver in the shape of a moon and clouds in a silver saucer, the inkstone lacquered on the sides to match the grounds of the boxes, the base roiro and hirame and the rims fundame

The large, rectangular document box decorated principally in gold takamaki-e and hiramaki-e on a roiro and hirame ground with a cockerel, hen and chick beside a flowering rose bush, the combs of the cockerel and hen red lacquer and the long tail feathers of the cockerel gold and silver lacquer, contours of the nearby rocks and ground indicated by okibirame and kimpun and nashiji, more of the ground and ferns extended on the long sides beside a flowing stream of gold and black togidashi and additional small plants a placed on the short side below the scene on the lid, the underside of the lid designed in gold and black togidashi with a grove of cedars and lanterns intersected by bands of mist and in the lower right in gold takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with togidashi details with five more lanterns and a pine draped with wisteria, the ground roiro, togidashi and mura-nashiji, the lower interior of the document box roiro and gold and silver hirame, the base roiro and gold hirame and the rims fundame
