A Celadon-Glazed Box and Cover
Koryo Dynasty (Second half 12th Century)
Circular, the shallow cover moulded as a chrysanthemum of twenty-two curved petals radiating from a central whorl of petals of equal number, each of the larger petals incised with scrolling foliage and the sides of the cover incised with fretwork, echoed in a matching band on the lower exterior of the box, the lower box also incised on the exterior below the fretwork with a wider band of arching sprigs of foliage, the entire box also decorated, including the interior, by a lustrous celadon glaze pooling emerald in the channels between the petals, inner adjoining rims unglazed, three spur marks on base
