Additional information: Paul Dubois (1827-1905) studied sculpture under Armand Toussaint, and made his debut at the Paris Salon of 1857. He reawakened the interest in Florentine Renaissance sculpture. His most celebrated work in this neo-florentin style is his contribution to the Memorial to General de Lamoriciere in Nantes Cathedral (1876). One of the life-size sculptures is La Courage Militaire. The Barbedienne Foundry edited this model in different sizes. The present cast was made Circa 1900.(H.W. Janson, Nineteenth-Century Sculpture, London 1985, p.186)
