The same splat pattern appears on an armchair sold by Thomas and Diane Berger, in these Rooms, 12 February 1998, lot 37. It also appears on a child's armchair, possibly made by Charles Douglas and formerly at Yester House, Scotland (F. Bamford, 'A Dictionary of Edinburgh Wrights and Furniture Makers 1660-1840', Furniture History, 1983, pl. 19).
