Lot Essay

This chair relates to recorded chairs produced in France in the second half of the 17th Century. A similar example, dated to circa 1650 is in the Louvre (originally from the château d'Effiat) and a further example, dated to circa 1675, is in the château de Villebon (G. Janneau, Le Mobilier franais: Les Sièges, Paris, 1967, pp. 30 & 33, figs. 47 & 51).
