Lot Essay

The use of pegged construction throughout this chest allied with the unusual feature of hollow drawer divides is found on Dutch chests throughout the 18th Century. The type is obviously English and there is a possibility that this chest was either made by a continental European, possibly Dutch, in England, or by a continental craftsman for an English client living abroad.
