Fernand Paillet was born in Niort, France circa 1840 and died in February 1918. A pupil of Carrier-Belleuse, he mainly painted portraits on enamel, porcelain and in watercolour. (This particular scene is painted on porcelain). He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1873. He worked in the Sèvres factory from 1879 through to 1888.
