A rare Heyde 'The Great White Fleet' Set
comprising six different three-dimensional cast lead and assembled steam warships, painted white, dressed overall in bunting and U.S. flags, two with sailors lining the side, two with removable lifeboats --6½in (17cm.) to --4¾in. (12cm.) long, four captain's barges passing in review, each with captain, four standing oarsmen and coxswain with flag and rudder and eight wave pieces, 1908 (G) (63)

Lot Essay

This set depicts the 'Great White Fleet' that was sent around the world by President Theodore Roosevelt as a good will gesture. Consisting of sixteen white painted and gilded battleships. Their journey lasted fourteen months from 16th December 1907 to 22nd Febuary 1909.
