Comprising a rectangular box and cover and attached three-sectionned tray, the centre supporting the fixed knopped and waisted candle-holder, the top of the box delicately enamelled with a bird perched on a flowering rose branch beside rockwork and two butterflies in flight, the reverse enamelled en grisaille with a mountainous landscape, some restoration to tray
7¾ in. (19.8 cm.) wide, fitted with two white metal-mounted glass containers

Compare the very similar desk set in the Mottahedeh Collection, illustrated by D. Howard and J. Ayers, China for the West, 1978, vol.II, no.597, p.574, where the authors suggest this shape may have come from Meissen or Vienna examples.
