A CHINESE EXPORT BLACK AND GILT LACQUER SIX-LEAF SCREEN INSET WITH SILK PANELS
early 19th century
Each leaf carved in relief at the top with a large gilt floral cluster between two leafy fronds above a large oval aperture inset with a silk panel finely painted with a variety of flowering branches including magnolia, peony, chrysanthemum, lotus, prunus and rose, between a small trefoil panel gilt with figures in a landscape at the top and a similar oval panel at the bottom, the reverse gilt with flowering and fruiting branches, all on a black lacquer ground, some age cracks
