signed and dated 'H.D Hamilton/delint 1773-' (lower left) and inscribed 'Kenneth MacKenzie 7th Earl of/Seaforth, Lord Fortrole Crawn/Castle, Mosshire in Scotland'/died govenor of Ceylon in 1779 having married a Mme Maria Stanhope/leaving issue - Lady Caroline Mackenzie/b.1766, mother of the present comte/de Melfort (Drummond) a colonel of staff in the French army b. 1796 and second cousin to the present Earl of Perth (Duke of Melfort in France)
The Earl of Seaforth being attained/for his participation in the rebellion/of 1745, his landed properties were bought by his first cousin MacKenzie, Col Huberthon? promoted to the rank of honours of a/baron of England - in whose female issue/was Lady hood, becoming hence after/Lady Stuart Mackenzie who d.18-' (on an old label attached to the backboard)
