Lot Essay

The sitter has been identified as Louis-Etienne, Comte de Saint-Farre (1759-1825), Knight of the Order of Malta, Abbé de Livry in 1781, and Prieur Commendataire of the Abbey of Saint Martin des Champs.
Another drawing by Cochin framed by Jean-Charles Delafosse was in the Wunder collection, Middlebury, Vermont, Architectural, Ornament, Landscape and Figure Drawings collected by Richard Wunder, 1975, no. 74, and sold at Christie's London, 7 July 1976, lot 39.
