Lot Essay
The watercolour shows a view looking east from the river bank at a spot near River House. The wooden buildings on the right are the old boat house and bards, replaced in the 1900s by an Edwardian boathouse, which in turn was demolished in 1968. The church depicted is Hemingford Grey Church, St James, which lost its steeple in a gale in 1741.
