Al-Mu'afa was born and died in Baghdad and was a renowned scholar. He wrote a number of works on the Qur'an,sunnah, fiqh and on history.
This the earliest dated copy of this work known. It was copied during the lifetime of the author and may be a holograph. The work is divided into six parts of which this is the fourth. It covers the Qur'an from sura vii al-a'raf verse 20 to the end of sura X Yunus.
