Muhammad Kazem was one of the sons of Aqa Najaf 'Ali, naqqash bashi, whose name is recorded in the marriage certificate of his sister now in the Khalili Collection (Khalili, Nasser D.; Robinson, B.W., and Stanley, Tim: Lacquer of the Islamic Lands, volume II, pp.22-29, esp.pp.25-26). His style is clearly close to that of other members of the family (see also the following lot).
