The form of this armguard with its elegant ribbing is identical to two early Ottoman armguards which were shown in Munich in 1910, one from the Königlicher Historisches Museum in Dresden, the other from the Kunsthistorisches Hofmuseum in Vienna (Meisterwerke Muhammedanische Kunst, exhibition catalogue, Munich, 1910, nrs.346 and 347, pl.238). The decoration on this example is less classically Ottoman, showing earlier Chinese influence in the floral designs, and thus probably antedates the other two.
