The field divided by a grid of golden yellow and dusty pink bands into serrated indigo panels each containing an ivory, sang-de-beouf or grass green angular boteh containing floral motifs, in a triple ivory, sang-de-beouf and light blue meandering floral and bird border between minor plain stripes, a date panel originally reading 1323 at one end, a chequered skirt and striped kilim strip at each end, localised wear, light paint stain, reduced crease line

Lot Essay

This most unusual Afshar rug is made of very soft lustrous wool and has a very floppy handle. A few details were originally in silk most of which has corroded away. There is also an amusing range of details at the left of the field.
