AN EARLY LOUIS XV ORMOLU-MOUNTED KINGWOOD AND TULIPWOOD BUREAU PLAT CIRCA 1730

With rounded rectangular crossbanded inset leather top banded in ormolu, the angles fitted with foliate-cast clasps above three drawers fitted with foliate-cast pulls, the back fitted with opposing sham drawers, on cabriole legs headed by plumed satyr's mask chutes and ending in scroll sabots-31in. (77cm.) high, 71in. (180cm.) wide, 34¼in. (87cm.) deep

Lot Essay

With its distinctive angle mounts and handles, this lot relates to the bureaux produced by the 'Maître des Pagodes' (A. Pradère, 'Le Maître aux Pagodes', L'Estampille/L'Objet d'Art, no. 256, March 1992, pp. 22-44). Other desks are in the Toledo Museum of Art and sold Sotheby's Monaco, 6 December 1983, lot 290.
