A mandolin musical box
probably by Bremond, No. 12920, playing six airs, with full-length zither attachment marked Nicole Freres, in walnut case with glazed lid, carved foliate panels to the front and sides and part-detached naturalistically carved woody supports to the bevelled corners, the interior with Nicole Frères transfer -- 20½in. (52cm.) wide, the cylinder 10.7/8 (27.5cm.)

Lot Essay

It is unusual to find the Nicole Frères name so prominently displayed on a movement which has neither their serial number nor name-stamp on the bedplate. Probably, this was sold by them secondhand, and the zither attachment added at that time.
