A Gothic-style Regina case
for 15½-inch disc movement, with simulated carved lattice-pattern, quatrefoils, cherubs and other gothic motifs -- 20½in. (52cm.) wide

Lot Essay

No movement has ever been fitted in this case, nor has the lid ever been fitted with hinges. The inside lid panel is left unpolished, as it would normally have been covered by a print. Nothing is known of the box's history; presumably, it was sold in a clearance of redundant or bankrupt stock by a British Regina agent, such as Nicole Frères.
