Panoramic Views of Rio de Janeiro and its surrounding scenery, lithographed by James Dickson, from paintings by the late Le Capelain, the original sketches by Edward Nicolle Junr. Liverpool: M. & N. Hanhart for Baines & Herbert, [?1848]. Oblong 2° (36.3 x 54.5cm.). Lithographed throughout. Title and ten tinted views by Dickson after Le Capelain. (Some repaired tears affecting the image of 3 plates.) Modern red half morocco, titled in gilt on the spine, by Bayntun of Bath (front free-endpaper creased and torn).

RARE. 'The artist may have been John Le Capelain, who was born in Jersey in 1814 and died in 1848. He was well known for his water-colour coast series with effects of mist, according to Binyon': Abbey Travel II. 710; Borba de Moraes I, p.264 ('..a rare and expensive album').
