[With:] Ernest SHACKLETON. A pencilled autograph note, [n.p.: n.d.], on a scrap of note-paper headed '14, Milnthorpe Road, Eastbourne.' (13.8 x 7.3cm.), reading 'I go to seek the stars' (on the recto) and '"Astra quaesitum ibo"' (on the verso), folded and loosely inserted in Browning's Works.
I.M.C. The Last Leave [n.p.: n.d.], a letterpress cutting (8 x 10.6cm.), of a sonnet, the final three lines reading 'Your ways were not the ways of other men, For littleness of vision never mars The sight of one whose eyes are towards the stars.', loosely inserted in Browning's Works.
A fine association copy of Browning's Works given to Shackleton by Perris, the editor of the Daily Chronicle, to mark the former's 40th birthday on 15 February 1914, six months before the departure of the Endurance on 1 August. For Perris, see the note to lot 153. (3)
