Painted and gilt with vivid enamels to the interior with a central scene of a lady greeting a visitor, an attendant holding a tea service in the pavilion above, another waiting attendant standing by a rickshaw, a further one tending to the traveler's horse, bands of gilt and iron-red spearheads and stylized leaves to the well, the outer rim with a continuous scene of gentlemen taming the "Eight Horses of Mu Wang" portrayed in mischievous and sprightly stances and in colors of fuscha, grey, black, yellow, white and aubergine, the exterior with scattered iron-red prunus blossoms

Mu Wang was the fifth sovereign of the Zhou Dynasty (c.1100-256 B.C.). His eight horses are renowned in legend and story and became a popular motif in Chinese art.
