Lot Essay

"...People have often asked me why I, an artist and a writer, put aside my proper work to engage in political activities. I have answered that if the Adirondack woods are on fire it is only a question of how close to my studio and home the fire gets before I stop painting and become a fire fighter. We must all, I believe, become fire fighters now. I therefore beg you to give the matter of this letter full and sympathetic consideration and write to me about it. Faithfully yours, Rockwell Kent."
