Lot Essay

Sandridge Park in Devon was built for Lady Ashburton, the widow of the banker Sir Francis Baring, later Lord Ashburton, by the architect John Nash in 1805. The design for the house was exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in that same year (M.Mansbridge, John Nash: A Complete Catalogue, Oxford, 1991, pp.118-119).
